TUCKER & DALE VS EVIL Thursday 05 January, 2012

According to the cover quotes these guys are “The Hillbilly Bill & Ted”. They aren’t.

Where Bill & Ted were essentially simpletons Tucker & Dale are normal guys. Normal guys who happen to be of the hillbilly persuasion and very, very unlucky.

Tucker & Dale Vs Evil is a comedy horror with more emphasis on the comedy than the horror. After the first few minutes I thought I was going to hate it because it felt a little bit too much like a teen film, which it undoubtedly is, but the laughs more than made up for any of those misgivings. Be warned though that a lot of the laughs revolve around horrific and fatal injuries. They are played for comedy and not for horror but some of you just might not find that kind of thing funny.

Tyler Labine & Alan Tudyk (Firefly’s Wash & Arrested Development’s Pastor Veal) are fantastic as the put upon duo. If you’re a guy you’ll also probably quite enjoy Katrina Bowden’s (30Rock’s Cerie) performance too. The rest of the cast are pretty much your standard mid 20s playing schoolkids group. Nothing spectacular just efficient.

This is a stupid film but it doesn’t try to be anything it’s not and it’ all the better for it. It’s funny enough and the titular characters are likeable enough. So likeable that I’d probably watch more of their adventures although I would hope that their other adventures don’t have to have more bloodshed.
